Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) Most Innovative EventFirst awarded in 1999. Last awarded 2003. In 2004 the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH) assumed coordination of MIAW.2003 Je t'aime pareil a docudrama, presented basic information about the nature of mental illnesses and how to get help through local and regional mental health services in Quebec. The film was produced and disseminated by a group of mental health organizations from Thetford Mines, Quebec: La Croisée, Le Havre, the Centre locale de services communautaires Frontenac and the Centre hospitalier de la région de l'Amiante. 2002 The national radio, TV, magazine and newspaper ad campaign to combat the stigma attached to mental illness was developed and disseminated by The Canadian Psychiatric Research Foundation (CPRF). The weeklong Reach Out to Prevent Suicide awareness campaign, organized by the Parkland Mental Health Promotion Committee, reached out to 13 Manitoba communities simultaneously. 2001 The play Starry, Starry Night was organized by All Nations International Theatre Society, the Calgary Foundation and Schizophrenia society of Alberta Partnership Program of Calgary, the Alberta Conference and media campaign, and the Association des parents et les amis de malades nationnels du centre du Quebec Inc., Drummondville, Quebec. 2000 CMHA, Special Needs Employment, Consumer Survivors, Sarnia, ON, CMHA, Alberta South Central Region, Calgary, AB, Le Groupe MusiArt, Montreal General Hospital, Montreal, Quebec 1999 CHOICE (Consumer Housing Opportunities in Community Environments) Project and Blue Ribbon Campaign organized by the Mental Health Rights Coalition, Hamilton, ON 2nd Annual Mental Health Information Fair organized by Toronto East General Hospital Mental Health Service and others, Toronto, ON Community forums, radio interviews and information sessions organized by Dr. Jean M'Pania, Edmunston, NB Coffee House Art organized by Capital Mental Health Association, Victoria, BC Mental Illness Education and Information Booth organized by Families Advocating for the Timely and Appropriate Care and Treatment of Serious Mental Illness, Capital Mental Health Association, Winnipeg, MB Grand Opening of the Iris Library (a new mental health lending library) organized by Kelowna County Mental Health Education Society of BC and the BC Schizophrenia Society Mental Illness--Many Faces, Mental Illness--A New Attitude, Mental Illness--The Experience Campaign organized by Kings County Mental Health Association of Nova Scotia, New Minas, NS The play, The Magic Stone, organized by the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, Edmonton Chapter, AB Mental Illness Masks organized by Canadian Mental Health Association, Fredericton/Oromocto Branch Mosaic of Mental Health art exhibition and sale organized by the Canadian Mental Health Association, Dartmouth Branch Mental Illness Fortune Cookie Distribution organized by the Centre d'Intégration Communautaire, Trois-Rivières, Quebec |
