The Dos and Don'ts While Managing Mood and Anxiety Disorders During Pregnancy and Postpartum

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

1. describe the contributing factors for the development of mood and anxiety during the perinatal period,
2. appreciate the risks associated with the exposure to an untreated psychiatric illness during pregnancy or breastfeeding,
3. appreciate the risks associated with the exposure to pharmacologic interventions during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and
4. critically review the most recent evidence on safety and efficacy of antidepressants during pregnancy and postpartum.
