Sex, Hormones and Depression: Does Gender Matter to Treatment?

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

1. acknowledge the “windows of vulnerability/opportunity” influencing the occurrence and treatment of depression throughout the female life cycle,
2. describe the hormonal and nonhormonal strategies to manage depression in women, and
3. appreciate the impact of hormonal changes on the efficacy of antidepressant treatments across various reproductive stages.
