International CPD Conference


The 13th International Continuing Professional Development conference (ICPD) will be held from Mar. 6 – 13, 2010 on board the Carnival Liberty cruise ship through the eastern Caribbean, departing from Miami, FL. Five of Canada's leading clinicians and experts will lead a series of high-quality, clinically-relevant, interactive lectures and workshops over six program days.

Conference Objectives

The purpose of this conference is to provide knowledge and implementation strategies and the opportunity for discussion on the topic of recent advances in psychiatry. Health is a complete state of physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (WHO 1995).

At the end of this conference, delegates should be able to:

  • discuss the main approaches to dealing with patients in crisis;

  • consider current evidence based practice in the assessment of suicide risk in patients in the ER;

  • discuss the mechanisms of action and rationale for the use of antidepressants and antipsychotics;

  • develop an evidence based approach to treatment issues in women’s mental health including in pregnancy;

  • develop strategies for better managing their professional and personal lives;

  • consider the rationale for novel pharmacological treatment strategies for treatment resistant depression; and

  • appreciate gender related issues in the assessment and treatment of depression and anxiety.
