PRACTICAL UPDATES FOR PSYCHIATRY AND FAMILY MEDICINE

Education Objectives

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. consider the concepts and processes underlying functionality to better appreciate the role of the physician in optimizing functional outcome;
  2. explain the importance of pursuing functional recovery while managing patients with depression and/or anxiety disorders;
  3. recognize when bipolar disorder becomes a dysfunctional illness;
  4. describe the respective roles and responsibilities of psychiatrists and family doctors regarding metabolic monitoring;
  5. develop practical strategies to maintain and improve function in patients who are suffering from MDD and experiencing pain;
  6. better understand current pharmacological and psychotherapeutic guidelines for the treatment of PTSD and how to incorporate current knowledge on common comorbid psychiatric illnesses;
  7. describe mindfulness and its application to different conditions; and
  8. consider the relationship of the complementary circuitry associated with common cognitive complaints and the available psychopharmacological therapies in ADHD.
