Telemental Health Education, part of a Forensic Education Series was developed under the leadership of Dr. Cynthia Baxter, the Chair of the Continuing Professional Development Committee for the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Service. This series of provincial forensic telehealth rounds occurs twice monthly and are broadcast to 25 sites across Western Canada with the intent to build capacity by providing interactive educational opportunities for service providers in urban, rural and remote communities to develop their skills in the assessment of and intervention with violent offenders. This telemental health series is an exemplary model for distance education and shared care.

Dr. Laurence Jerome and Dr Harold Merskey of the Harley Street Group and Dr Steven Dain, Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine from the University of Western Ontario for their program Understanding Pain. Through a DVD and supporting Web site, to educate residents in training, practicing psychiatrists and other clinicians about the history of chronic pain and current management approaches.

This two-part experiential program gave psychiatrists specific, concrete therapeutic skills which could easily be applied in their work when treating patients with Borderline Personality Disorder.

This symposium gathered together a national, multi-disciplinary group of researchers, policymakers, program administrators and public health professionals to hear from researchers at the forefront of obesity and eating disorders treatment, and to set the stage for innovative and integrated approaches to help prevent obesity and eating disorders in those at risk.

Dr. John Tuttle for the University of Calgary’s Update in Medicine for Psychiatrists program. This program keeps psychiatrists up-to-date on changing areas of medicine and helps them co-manage medical patients more effectively.

Dr. Diane Simpson, Dr. Scott Patten, Dr. Steven Simpson and Dr. Jordon Cohen for their Psychiatric Online Journal Club. This online discussion forum addresses the needs of psychiatrists with time and distance constraints and provides a place of learning through online discussions and interpersonal interaction.
