Dr. Vasavan Nair has had a distinguished career in clinical research. He has been Chief of the Douglas Mental Health University Institute’s Program for Dementia with Neuropsychiatric Comorbidity (PDPC) for the last seven years. In this time it has grown to include a Memory Clinic, a Day Center as well as an In-Patient Unit specialized in the acute treatment of neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia. Under Dr. Nair’s leadership the Memory Clinic has become a member of the C5R and presently has at least nine active pharmacological research projects in addition to a project in neurolinguistics and cognitive remediation. Dr. Nair has been a prime mover for the establishment of a research centre at the Douglas Hospital.

Dr. Kenneth Le Claire was recognized for his research and teaching and his involvement in the policy, planning and service delivery of geriatric psychiatry and mental health—with particular emphasis on knowledge transfer and exchange in the area of senior mental health, innovations, health care delivery and the education of health and social care providers who serve older persons with mental health needs.

Dr. John deVries was recognized for his many years of commitment to community practice in geriatric psychiatry in Canada.
