Upcoming Committee Vacancies

CPA members in good standing are invited to consider applying for upcoming committee member vacancies.

The CPA seeks and encourages applications from qualified candidates who reflect the diversity and demography of the psychiatrist population with sensitivity to gender, age, race/ethnicity, Indigeneity, cultural background, language, sexual identity and disability. In all cases, appointments will be based on relevant experience, needed expertise, availability and interest.

Committee Member Positions

  • Early Career Psychiatrist Working Group: Candidates for the ECP Working Group must be in their first five years of practice following certification in psychiatry or a psychiatry subspecialty. There are positions available to members who reside in British Columbia, Alberta, the Prairies (i.e., Manitoba or Saskatchewan) or Québec. There is also a member-at-large position (i.e., any province or territory).
  • Education Committee: Candidates should have expertise in undergraduate or postgraduate education, residency accreditation and/or educational assessment. There are positions available to members who reside in British Columbia and Québec.
  • Professional Standards and Practice (PSP) Committee: Ideal candidates are aware of provincial regulatory standards, and past service on a volunteer board or committee is an asset. There are positions available to members who reside in Québec and the Prairies (i.e., Manitoba or Saskatchewan).
  • Public Policy Committee: Four openings. Ideal candidates are familiar with governmental decision-making processes and/or have knowledge of mental health public policy issues.
  • Membership Affairs Committee: One opening. Appointments will be based on relevant experience, needed expertise, availability and interest.
  • Member-in-Training Subcommittee: Ideal candidates should recognize the value of the CPA’s mission and have a vision for how to improve the trainee experience for their colleagues, have prior experience with coordinating educational activities and working in medium-sized organizations, and support provision of an equitable and inclusive learning environment with educational content that promotes health equity. There is one position for a resident from British Columbia.

Drs Leon Tourian, Jeff Waldman, Yanbo Zhang and Nadia Hassanali are each eligible for reappointment for a second three-year term in their current roles.

Eligibility and Term of Office
Candidates must be members of the CPA in good standing as defined by sections 3.01 and 3.03 of the bylaws, and if appointed, agree to remain so throughout their tenure on a committee.

Candidates must also agree to abide by the prevailing Volunteer Disclosure and Conflict of Interest Policy (disclosure of competing interests will be required at the application stage).

Save the Members-in-Training Subcommittee, where the term is two years, the term for each position is three years or as determined by the Board, renewable once (with the exception of the ECP Working Group, where the term is not renewable). Committees generally meet at least quarterly by virtual means and may also meet face-to-face once a year.
