À la conclusion de cette activité, les participants seront en mesure de : 1) Define artificial intelligence and understand its role in psychiatric care and education; 2) Describe current literature on artificial intelligence in health professions’ education, including psychiatric education; and 3) Describe the use of natural language processing for evaluation of educational programs to support mental health capacity building.

The role of artificial intelligence (AI) in health professions’ education (HPE) is an emerging focus and needs further consideration. Advances in AI in HPE provide opportunities for building mental health capacity and supporting psychiatric care improvements. This symposium explores the role of AI in psychiatry education through the lens of developing educational programs for mental health and primary care providers. There are four presentations in this proposed symposium. The first presentation will focus on the theoretical aspects of AI. It will also explore the potential role of AI-enabled technologies in different aspects of medical education, such as curriculum development and evaluation of educational programs, including mental health education programs for health care providers. The second presentation will provide an up-to-date literature review on the use of AI in the education of health care professionals. It will explore the scope of AI in identifying learning needs for training, personalized learning with AI principles and evaluation of health care professional education programs with data science. The third presentation will provide an overview on the role of natural language processing (NLP) in psychiatry. We will introduce the participants to the concept of NLP and discuss the potential of NLP in medical education and training. Finally, in the fourth presentation, we will share preliminary data on the use of NLP in evaluating training programs in a tertiary academic psychiatry centre. The presentation will highlight the use of NLP applications, such as topic modelling, in the analysis of data sets to inform design and program evaluation.
