Learning Objectives

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Become aware of the range of services required to provide comprehensive community care for schizophrenia and schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

  2. Understand how improving symptoms of low motivation and energy can lead to improved functional outcomes in patients with depression.

  3. Appreciate the prevalence of Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD) in the Canadian population and review current developments in clinical applications.

  4. Understand the various treatment considerations for the management of ADHD and psychiatric comorbidity including both pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatment.

  5. Conceptualize clinical cases from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) perspective to develop treatment approaches.

  6. Become familiar with the classification of psychotropic medications on the basis of their pharmacological action rather than on the first indication for which they were introduced, in order to help with rational selection of medications.
