The CPA, our national organization, advocates for a better health care system for psychiatrists and our patients. Our collective voice is what makes us strong. As physicians, we need to develop professional leadership skills. Whether managing a ward, participating on a committee or leading meetings, these skills are vital. We use these skills to be a voice for patients and to promote our profession. In my role as MIT chair, I work with resident representatives and the CPA to develop a leadership curriculum for CPA resident members.

The CPA strives to make membership beneficial to members-in-training. Its annual conference provides residents with opportunities to meet and network with peers as well as more senior CPA leaders from across the nation. It is also the venue for resident track sessions and the CPA research colloquium, an event to which residents of all levels of research training can apply.

I urge you to consider becoming a CPA member and to join the MIT Facebook group. This will keep you up-to-date on all things MIT and give you access to networking and educational opportunities. Interested in getting involved? Consider applying to be part of our MIT subcommittee. It’s a great opportunity to develop leadership skills and to work with current thought leaders.
