Want to try something new? Need motivation to stay fit? A big part of wellness is keeping physically healthy, and a great way of achieving this is with cross-country skiing!
“Wellness” for me means dedicating a short time each day for exercise or fresh air. Combining these strategies through skiing this winter has been a big mood-booster for me, and also helps to embrace colder weather while enjoying some of our beautiful Canadian terrain. The nice thing about skiing is it can be relaxed and slow-paced, or higher-intensity depending on the style and skier. Plus, you can practice what we preach in psychiatry: exercise as a treatment for depression!
Cross-country skiers are some of the best-conditioned athletes, with demands on both cardiovascular and muscular fitness in a full-body exercise. Try it out! Visit this website for information on how to get started: http://northernwilds.com/cross-country-skiing/
