At the end of this session, participants will be able to: 1) Describe different dose and agent considerations when prescribing psychiatric medications to those with physical health conditions; 2) Evaluate recent studies investigating pharmacological options for medically ill populations; and 3) Apply the findings from recent research and clinical guidelines to their own experiences to improve quality of care.

This course will be an interactive session exploring recent developments in consultation-liaison (CL) psychiatry, useful for both general and CL psychiatrists. This year, we are focusing on psychopharmacology in the medically ill. Participants will hear from three speakers, each with a different area of expertise. Speakers will provide an overview of the latest evidence and most important considerations for the care of psychiatric patients with co-occurring cardiac, neurologic, and oncologic conditions, as well as how best to manage agitation in the general hospital setting. Participants attending this course will have the opportunity to engage with each member of the course faculty through question-and-answer sessions. The course will focus on both practice and theory. Participants will be able to reflect on their current clinical management, how this aligns with best practice, and ways to modify to improve quality of care and patient outcomes.
